Gender equality and the empowerment of women is one of the Millennium Development Goals to be reached by the year 2015. The anti-poverty targets set by the international community in 2001 can only be achieved if real progress is made in improving women’s rights. This is the only way forward to achieving sustainable development in a number of key areas.

A female Russian tourist, who lived in Equatorial Guinea for six months, will have to undergo treatment for an exotic disease known as loiasis. The woman arrived in the African country last winter. Six months later, she found a small white tumor on her shoulder. The tumor was 3-4 centimeters in diameter. The tumor disappeared in two days, but later reappeared on the woman’s head.

Chinese woman Zhang Ruifang, aged 101, has become a star in her Linlou village, Henan province. The elderly woman grew a horn on her forehead, above her left eye a year ago. Now the woman grows another horn – above the right eye. The woman says that she does not feel any discomfort about the horn. Her six children fear that their mother would eventually turn into a goat
